10 UNIQUE BED AND BREAKFASTS IN THE USA
Long drives in the country, weekend getaways, romantic weekends, those are the things that come to my mind when I think about Bed and Breakfasts. However, there are a ton of unusual and unique Bed and Breakfasts in the USA. Below are my top 10 most unique B & B’s. From a boat in the desert to a cave in the side of a mountain, I hope you enjoy reading about them all. I would love to hear from you in the comments below if you have visited any I have listed or if you have been to one that I left off the list.
Out’n’About Treehouses Treesort, Takilma, Oregon

photo rights Outnabout Treesort
Didn’t we all want a tree house when we were young? Now you can stay in one that would blow your childhood dream treehouse away. Located next to the Siskiyou National this 36-acre private property has a ton of fun things you can do. A working horse farm this “Treesort” offers horseback riding, hiking, swimming, zip lines, rafting, and several arts and craft activities. They even have a Tarzan swing!
If you have always dreamed of sleeping among the clouds in a treehouse, then look no further. For more information, you can click here.
Ravenwood Castle, New Plymouth, Ohio

Who wouldn’t want to spend the night in a castle? While this was never an actual castle it was built to resemble the castles built to defend the border between England and Wales in the 12th and 13th centuries. In addition to the rooms inside the castle, guests can also book a room in the Huntsman’s Hollow or in the medieval village.
For a really unique experience book a room during one of the many murder mystery weekends. Ravenwood Murder Mystery weekends are more than just a mystery dinner. Guests will participate in a weekend-long hunt for the killer. Starting at dinner Friday evening and not wrapping up until breakfast on Sunday. Your weekend will be filled with 40 hours of puzzle solving, clue searching, and evidence gathering. For more information on Ravenwood click here.
Dog Bark Park Inn, Cottonwood, Idaho

If you happen to be driving through Idaho you may want to find a way to work this B and B into your travel plan. Dog Park Inn is located inside the world’s largest Beagle. Yes, you read that right, you can sleep inside a giant dog!! Created by artists Dennis Sullivan and his wife Frances Conklin this one of a kind B and B is pawsitively a must-see attraction. Are dogs welcome? Of course!!

Bed and Breakfast Afloat in Boston, Massachusetts

Photo courtesy of Afloat in Boston
Do you want to be lulled to sleep by the gentle rocking of the sea? This unique B & B is spread across several boats all docked right in Boston Harbor. Located steps away from some great restaurants and offering some of the best views you will find in Boston I think this might be one of the best places to stay in the city! How great would it be to wake up to the sunrise over the harbor or sit on your own private deck to watch the sunset?
While your home away from home will be stationed in its dock at the harbor you can still arrange to have a sunset cruise, fishing charter, or lunch or dinner cruise. Many amenities are offered with this B and B but one of my favorites may be the opportunity to take a water taxi directly from the airport to your room. For more information click here.
Castle Marne in Denver, Colorado

Built in 1889 this castle has been carefully restored to highlight the grandeur and elegance of its time while still allowing for the modern convinces of today. You can choose from a romantic jacuzzi suite or a room with its original claw foot tub. Gourmet breakfast and high tea are included in your stay.
Weddings, romance packages, and themed dinners are just some of the highlights this castle has to offer. Located near many top Denver attractions. Castle Marne also offers bike rentals to help you get around town and take in the sights. For more information click here.
Beckham Creek Cave Lodge, Parthenon, Arkansas

From Castles to caves. Set on a private 260-acre property you will find Beckham Creek Cave Lodge Nested in a natural cavern, high within a bluff overlooking the valley, a living cavern turned into a high-end retreat. This has got to be the most unusual B & B on my list (and maybe the most expensive.)
When you want a change of scenery from the natural wonders inside the cave you can enjoy many outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, and even helicopter rides. For more info on Beckham Creek click here.
Victorian Mansion Bed and Breakfast, Los Alamos, CA

From the outside, this looks like a gorgeous Victorian Mansion, but it’s the inside that will really knock your socks off. Located in the Santa Ynez wine country and only a short drive from Santa Barbara or Los Angeles this B & B offers 6 very unique themed rooms to choose from. A 50’s suite with a Cadillac converted into a bed and set up to look like a drive-in movie. A Gypsy suite where the bed is in a wagon and a mural of a waterfall is above your private sunken hot tub. A Roman suite with a chariot for a bed and a hot tub set to look like a roman bath atop a staircase surrounded by pillars. An Egyptian suite with an elegant 4 post bed and fireplace. A French suite featuring private balconies and an artist’s loft, and a Pirates retreat made to look like the inside of a ship, complete with its own treasure map. I don’t know how I would choose!! For more info click here.
Red Caboose Getaway, Sequim, WA

I suppose this would be the ideal B & B for that person that gets motion sickness but has always wanted to stay on a train. Every room at the Red Caboose is its own private train car. Even the restaurant is in a real dining car. Aside from the very unique accommodations this B & B is located near some stunning destinations. Visit some of the local hot springs or tide pools, hike at Olympic National Park, visit the Hoh Rain Forest, or take a day to enjoy some of the local wineries. Sounds like the perfect spot for a vacation to me! Click here for more information.
Cherry Wood Bed Breakfast and Barn in Zillah, Washington

Have you ever wanted to stay in a Teepee? This is your chance! Located in Yakima Valley’s wine country this B & B is a working ranch. With several 22-foot teepees to choose from, you can have a near camp like vacation but with the feel of a luxury B & B. Each teepee is comfortably outfitted with cloud-like beds and fluffy down comforters, you won’t have to sleep in bags on the floor here.
This is a working horse ranch so many of the activities include ranch style fun. Horseback riding, wagon tours of the winery, hiking, to name a few. Pets are also welcome here. For more information click here.
The Shady Dell Vintage Trailer Court, Bisbee, Arizona

Photo courtesy of The Shady Dell
If you ever wondered what it would be like to stay on a yacht in the middle of the desert, you can find the answer at The Shady Dell. How about a 1950 Hollywood trailer? This B & B is made up of many different trailers each with their own charm and, from what I can tell, one boat. Don’t plan on bringing any pets or children here because they are not allowed.
This is a throwback to a 1950’s RV park. With many nostalgic touches like record players and 50’s décor. If you were planning a trip to Bisbee you might want to check this place out. For more info you can click here.
