Is there anything better than an all-inclusive resort? For me, it is the ideal vacation. With beautiful ocean views and poolside service, I always feel like I am in paradise. With so many choices how do you pick the right resort for you?
Found mostly throughout the Caribbean and Mexico the first question to ask yourself is where do you want to go? If you are open to several locations then the next thing to consider is what type of experience are you looking for? Are you looking for a family vacation or will it be adults only? Are you looking for a lot of activities and adventure or do you enjoy relaxing poolside? Do you want a fantastic beach or is the pool area more your speed? You can read my review on two adults only resorts here Secrets Aura Cozumel and also my review on Secrets Silversands Rivera Maya.
If you are looking for a family vacation then the first thing to consider is the age of the children you are bringing. Some resorts cater more towards young children, such as Now and Sunscape, and some cater towards Tweens and Teens, such as Dreams. It is important to check with the resorts directly or read reviews on sites like Trip Advisor to find out if they offer daycare or kids club programs. Even if you decide to book your trip through a discount site like Bookit or Expedia I recommend calling the resort first to ask questions. Breathless Cancun now offers pet-friendly rooms. That’s right! You can bring your best friend with you to this amazing adult only resort.
Another thing to consider is if the resort requires wristbands. To some people, this can be a real pain. I for one hate wearing them. Alcohol and food options are another thing to look at before you book. If you enjoy a certain brand of beer or alcohol you can find out beforehand what brands the resorts offer. You should also find out if they have an upcharge for “top shelf” liquor. This is a trick I have noticed some resorts use. They offer you an all-inclusive package with drinks included but the fine print tells you that they charge extra for top-shelf spirits. I stay away from resorts that do that. The last thing I want is a surprise bill at the end of my stay.
If you are a foodie then read reviews on the restaurants at the resorts you are considering. How many restaurant choices do they offer? What is the dress code? Do you need reservations? Do they offer choices that fit your dietary needs, such as a gluten-free menu or diabetic menus? If you do your research beforehand then you will most likely not be disappointed.
