Secrets Playa Mujeres Restaurant Review
The one question I am asked above all others when it comes to all-inclusive resorts is, “How is the food?” It is a reasonable question. If you are going to fork over the money to have an all-inclusive package, then you want to know you will enjoy the meals. Because of this, I thought I would share with you a review of every restaurant at Secrets Playa Mujeres along with some photos. I hope you enjoy!
The meaning of Himitsu is secret in Japanese, clever. This Asian restaurant offers a hibachi grill or traditional style restaurant. I was surprised to discover this was my favorite of all the restaurants. The food at the Hibachi grill was average but the presentation was very entertaining. The food at the traditional side was soooo good! We had spring rolls, chicken pad Thai, Szechuan shrimp, and teriyaki salmon (not all at once though!!) Fantastic!
The night we ate at the Hibachi Grill side the chef prepared sushi, fried rice, and then your choice of mahi-mahi, shrimp, chicken, steak, or a combination of any of the 4. A mixture of fresh vegetables was also included. The restaurant has 3 hibachi tables, so reservations are required. This is the only time a reservation is needed at any of the restaurants at Secrets. I found the sushi a bit on the sticky side and the rest of the food just mediocre. The true value in going here is the show the chef puts on. If you have gone to a Japanese Hibachi restaurant in the past this is very similar. The chef cooks everything at your table while entertaining you with juggling, flipping food, and making an onion volcano. It’s a fun time.
The best view of all the restaurants. Oceanfront and open air with a cool ocean themed interior. This is a seafood and steak restaurant. We had the marinated shrimp and they were delicious. We also had the surf and turf (steak and shrimp) with mashed sweet potatoes. I thought both meals were great.
Oceana is open for breakfast to preferred club members and they offer a large variety of options including eggs benedict, omelets, and French toast. They are also open for lunch to preferred club guests. I had a salmon burger, it was a bit on the dry side but still good.
This is an Italian restaurant. We had the bruschetta, Caesar salad, shrimp scampi, and lasagna. The menu gives you several options for salads and appetizers as well as a pasta menu and then the main course.
Open for lunch and dinner. Steakhouse at night and burgers and sandwiches for lunch. The setting is nice as this restaurant is located poolside with some romantic tables over the pool. At lunch, they also have a salad bar and a few hot dish items on a small buffet.
French Cuisine. They have an amazing filet with hollandaise sauce and the French onion soup is baked with a pastry bread on top making the presentation unique. This is probably my second favorite place to eat. They offer some unique dishes and for dessert, you need to try the crème Brulee.
Classic Mexican food. Of course you are going to want a Mexican restaurant when you are in Mexico. They start you off with some awesome home-made tortilla chips and guacamole, I think I could have made a meal out of just that. One night out of the week they have a big Mexican buffet. Tables and chairs are set up around the pool area with live entertainment. They prepare all kinds of authentic Mexican dishes with a big dessert bar. I recommend you eat at that. You can try a little bit of everything on the menu that way and it’s a fun festive vibe.
This is the Buffett open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At breakfast, they have both a smoothie station and a cooked to order omelet bar. At lunch, they have a cooked to order pasta station and a station where they will cook meat and vegetables to order. Try the ice cream, it is amazing!!
Poolside grill with hot wings, nachos, and burgers. The cheeseburger and fries were so yummy. I was a big fan of the wings too. You can order from here and eat it poolside or if you are a preferred club guest you can order from here on the beachside cabana beds and have it delivered to you.
A gourmet coffee shop with hot pretzels and bakery items.
Secrets Playa Mujeres has several bars. The oceanfront bar with swings as seats is a great place to enjoy the view of the Carribean blue waters while listening to the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. The poolside bar and the pool bar are a fun place to watch the entertainment staff put on shows and play games with the guests. At night the Desires nightclub has both indoor and outdoor seating. This is a nice place to wait for the movie or theater show to start or have a nightcap before heading back to the room. You can also enjoy live music outside of Bordeaux and Portofino in the romantic setting of the outside lounge. If you have upgraded to the preferred club you can enjoy any top shelf liquor you desire. The bartenders are all very friendly and could make any drink I asked for.
